Lets start with water. This should be SUCH an easy thing to do right. Drink 8 glasses of water daily. Doesn't sound tough, but in reality this simple thing can be so challenging for many. Tea and juices don't count, just talking about plain unaltered water here. Water can help with weight loss, give you clearer skin and also helps to keep your metabolism raised. I will be honest this is one I am working on myself. Everytime I go to the gym I force myself to take my water bottle with me now and usually I drink between 1-2 full bottles (so 5-6 cups). Also have decided to drink water first thing when I get up in the morning, so even if I forget the rest of the day I can at least get that water in. I will say I have noticed less cravings personally and I am making wiser choices. I am no longer craving sugar & salt, and my body seems to becoming back to more of a state of balanced.
7 hours of sleep. This is so important. Studies show that people who get less sleep than this are more likely to be overweight. In this modern world, it can be hard to shut down or turn off the stimulation but give yourself a chance. See what the world looks like if you are getting more sleep. I can also speak on this one personally, with my husband travelling so much of the time the last 1 1/2 years I had gotten to where I really didn't sleep very well unless he is home. I am forcing myself to shut off the computer though at night and just go to bed and curl up with my dogs and a book. I feel much better in the morning and much more refreshed. The same thing for my children, while not tied with weight loss, it is tied with attitude. I have been using Doterra serenity oil on both children to help them wind down at night. My sons moods have gotten much better with forcing him to wind down earlier. Sleep is so important!! It affects so much including what you weigh.
Stress management and/or doing something for yourself daily. What are you doing to manage your stress? For me, I hit the gym or take my dogs on a walk. As time goes on I would like to incorporate more yoga and also meditation, but baby stepping it back up to where I once was. Taking time for self care and self love is truly very important. If you are not managing your stress, and giving yourself some time, you may find that you have weight issues from this. Stress can be hard on the body. Try finding something you can do, even if it is just meditate for a few minutes daily and build on that. Give yourself that love you truly deserve!
Maintaining a clean and organized home. This is one I am also working on this year. I have been gradually trying to get my home back into order. It fell into chaos last year. I will tell you I don't function as well personally when my surroundings are chaotic and everything just kind of drops. Since I have really been working harder on keeping things up in the house, my personal life also seems to be more orderly as well. See what you can do if you are not already there to baby step your way into organization. Something I have used in the past, but am not using currently is "Fly Lady" she gives lots of great tips and encouragement and working your way into a more organized home.
Putting your relationships above work. I will be honest, this was something I ALSO struggled with last year. With my husband being gone so much it is easy to get into a rhythm that was not inclusive of him. And also with starting a new business I was just really busy and my kids also kind of got pushed back a little as well. That is something I have been working really hard on recently, when my husband is home. The night time hours are reserved for family time and then time for he & I. I have re-incorporated a monthly date or alone time with each child. This is regrouping our family unit, my marriage and also my relationship with my children and I really believe it is a good thing. If everyone is happier in the home, you are bound to make better choices when it comes to food because you yourself will also be happier.
Exercise. Seems to go without saying. Do something daily to try to move your body. What do you love? Find something you enjoy so it will be pleasurable, or find someone you would enjoy doing it with so at least you have a buddy. I have found some exercises I enjoyed a ton, when done with a friend, and while doing it solo, I do not enjoy them at all. Add that component of friendship in there and you can help fill up your tank while also doing something good for yourself physically at the same time.
Lastly and certainly not least, what kinds of foods are your intaking? are you eating breakfast? This helps kickstart your metabolism each morning. Are you working on incorporating more fresh, non processed foods? We usually have a green smoothie every morning for breakfast except of Sabbath, much to my childrens shagrin. They drink it, the smoothies taste good, and it is a great way to kick start the day. I put in some sort of leafy green along with flax seeds and then the fruit and homemade nut milk, so they get a balance of calories, fat & protein.
Look at this list. See what you can gradually try to incorporate. All of these points are going to be key to maintaining a healty weight. Though you might not hit each one every day, try to get a good balance of them and see where life leads you. Sometimes a healthy weight is not always about what you are putting into your mouth.
