_One person likes this food; another
that. One person can eat this; another is very allergic to it. Dreams
and plans of not becoming a short order cook dissipate into
nothingness. Regrouping and coming up with another strategy is a
survival tool. Mealtime for many of us is not just simply putting foods
together and
setting them before our loved ones. We have to plan and think about
what we are about to serve. For many, this task is daunting...even nigh
impossible. It is easy to give up and just deal with the repercussions
of choices made instead of working out a balanced and healthy solution.
Ariella and Dawn have both had to face this.
Between our two families there are fourteen people and just as many
unique diets. We have had to learn to become creative and plan well.
Some of it is due to food preferences; most of it is because of severe
allergies.
We've climbed mountains and been inspired
by the heights of successful recipes and meal plans. We've descended
to valleys of meals and allergic reactions we would rather forget.
Deserts? Plenty. Surviving with drops of water in dry spots happens. Usually this is followed by a downpour of inspiration and we can't seem to keep up with the ideas.
This adventure is not dull, to say the least.
At times, it is very costly (in time and money) and exhausting. More often than not our tenacity
pays off and we are invigorated by this exercise and rewarded with
nutritious, delicious, and affordable gourmet meals.
We have
gained a wealth of experience and hope to share helpful tips for other
adventurers out there. We sincerely hope that the maps, treasures,
pointers, and sometimes warnings that we have picked up along the way
will be beneficial to each adventurer finding their way here.
